Because real wealth is about freedom—not just finances.

This is the Seventh article in a 7-part series. To learn more about the series, take a look at The 7 Pillars We Stand On

We hope you enjoy today's newsletter edition!

Money, Wealth & Autonomy

We’ve been taught that success means making more money.

Climbing higher. Earning bigger titles. Building a “nest egg.”

But here’s what often gets left out:

Money without freedom is just another trap.

And chasing income without clarity can leave you just as burned out as a bad job ever did.

This pillar is about redefining wealth—on your terms.

Not just to survive, or even thrive—but to choose how you live.

Why This Matters

Most people were never taught how to think about money beyond “get a good job and save.”

But in a world where job security is unstable and the cost of living keeps rising, we need a different framework.

You deserve more than just earning.

You deserve autonomy.

Money is a tool.

Wealth is a design choice.

What It Is

âś… Redefining wealth as a combination of freedom, time, and alignment

âś… Creating income streams that support your values and goals

âś… Designing a life where you control how you work and live

✅ Understanding money as a means—not the mission

What It’s Not

❌ Just about making more money or scaling faster

❌ Glorifying hustle culture or 100-hour workweeks

❌ A dream of early retirement with no purpose

❌ A rigid definition of “success” based on income or lifestyle alone

The Problem With Traditional Thinking

  • We measure success in salary instead of satisfaction
  • We feel guilt around rest, investing in ourselves, or spending on things that nourish us
  • We assume entrepreneurship is either “risky” or “all or nothing”
  • We build lives optimized for income, but not for intention

What we’re left with is a cycle of overwork, followed by burnout, followed by regret.

We can do better.

What Wealth Looks Like (to Us)

  • Having enough recurring income to say “no” when it matters
  • Designing your week around your energy—not just your calendar
  • Feeling aligned with the work you do and the life it funds
  • Being able to take time off without everything falling apart
  • Knowing what “enough” looks like—and living by it

This doesn’t mean aiming small.

It means aiming clearly.

The First Step

Ask yourself:

What does “wealth” actually mean to me—beyond money?

Time? Peace? Autonomy? Creative freedom?

What would a rich life look like, feel like, and allow you to do?

Start designing around that.

The money is important—but it’s just one part of the puzzle.

Coming Soon: The Series Wrap-Up

We’ll bring it all together in a closing article that revisits the seven pillars—and shows how they connect into a clear, empowering framework for designing a more intentional life.

47. The Employment Gap That Changed Everything
Read time: 6 minutes | Forward to a friend | Read online   The Moment Everything Clicked Last week, I learned of a former colleague who stumbled through explaining a 4-month gap to a hiring manager, apologizing for something that wasn't her fault. The shame in her voice hit me: we've been conditioned to see employment gaps as professional failures instead of what they actually are... proof tha...
46. The Spreadsheet Decision
Read time: 6 minutes  Last week, I watched another "restructuring announcement" trend on LinkedIn... thousands of professionals reduced to line items in someone else's quarterly adjustment. The responses were heartbreakingly predictable: shock, loyalty pledges, and promises that "this company is different." But here's what no one wants to admit: layoff culture isn't a temporary economic blip. ...
45. The Identity Audit: Who Are You When Nobody's Paying You?
Read time: 6 minutes   The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything I clearly recall the moment that changed the way I introduce myself. I was at a social gathering, meeting a lot of new people, when I heard myself say for the third time that evening, "Hi, I'm Nathan, I run marketing for a startup." I had an immediate question for myself in that moment... Why would anyone care? Why did I need to s...
