Because the real reason you’re stuck isn’t strategy—it’s psychology.

This is the Sixth article in a 7-part series. To learn more about the series, take a look at The 7 Pillars We Stand On

We hope you enjoy today's newsletter edition!

Overcoming Fear, Doubt & Perfectionism

Let’s be honest: Most people don’t fail because their ideas are bad. They fail because they never start.

They stay trapped in research, hesitation, what-ifs, and quiet overthinking. Waiting for clarity. Waiting for confidence. Waiting for the moment they finally feel “ready.”

This pillar exists to challenge that waiting game—because it’s a trap.

Why This Matters

Fear is baked into every meaningful pursuit. The bigger the goal, the louder the inner critic.

Whether you’re starting a side hustle, launching a new idea, or sharing your voice online… you will feel resistance. Doubt. Perfectionism. Imposter syndrome.

That’s not a flaw. That’s a signal.

Your brain is trying to protect you from risk—social, emotional, financial, reputational. But growth comes from learning to act in spite of it.

What It Is

âś… Learning to move forward despite internal resistance

âś… Normalizing fear as part of the process

âś… Recognizing perfectionism as a form of procrastination

âś… Building self-trust through action, not just planning

What It’s Not

❌ Waiting until you feel “100% ready” or confident

❌ Forcing yourself to be fearless (you won’t be)

❌ Pretending mindset alone fixes everything

❌ Ignoring risk—it’s about reducing it, not erasing it

What’s Really Going On

Perfectionism often disguises itself as “standards.” But underneath, it’s fear of being judged, misunderstood, or not good enough.

Common patterns:

  • “It’s not the right time” = fear of starting
  • “I just need to do more research” = fear of failing
  • “I don’t want to look stupid” = fear of visibility
  • “It’s already been done” = fear of being ignored

The solution isn’t to eliminate fear. It’s to recognize it, reframe it, and move anyway.

What Moving Forward Looks Like

  • Publishing before you feel “finished”
  • Sharing an idea even if it’s been said before—your way matters
  • Committing to a small action this week instead of a 6-month plan
  • Asking yourself “what’s the smallest step I could take?”
  • Replacing “what if it fails?” with “what might I learn?”

Clarity comes from action—not before it.

The First Step

Ask yourself: What would I do if I wasn’t afraid of being judged, failing, or doing it imperfectly?

Then do a small piece of that. Today. Not next week.

You don’t need confidence to begin. You need to begin to build confidence.

Next up: The final pillar: Money, Wealth & Autonomy. We’ll explore how to redefine what wealth means, and how to build income streams that support freedom—not just status or survival.

47. The Employment Gap That Changed Everything
Read time: 6 minutes | Forward to a friend | Read online   The Moment Everything Clicked Last week, I learned of a former colleague who stumbled through explaining a 4-month gap to a hiring manager, apologizing for something that wasn't her fault. The shame in her voice hit me: we've been conditioned to see employment gaps as professional failures instead of what they actually are... proof tha...
46. The Spreadsheet Decision
Read time: 6 minutes  Last week, I watched another "restructuring announcement" trend on LinkedIn... thousands of professionals reduced to line items in someone else's quarterly adjustment. The responses were heartbreakingly predictable: shock, loyalty pledges, and promises that "this company is different." But here's what no one wants to admit: layoff culture isn't a temporary economic blip. ...
45. The Identity Audit: Who Are You When Nobody's Paying You?
Read time: 6 minutes   The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything I clearly recall the moment that changed the way I introduce myself. I was at a social gathering, meeting a lot of new people, when I heard myself say for the third time that evening, "Hi, I'm Nathan, I run marketing for a startup." I had an immediate question for myself in that moment... Why would anyone care? Why did I need to s...
